TULSA, OK – Tulsa Ballet presents the American premiere of Vendetta, A Mafia Story at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center stage, May 21-24. For tickets and information, call (918)749-6006 or visit tulsaballet.org.

Vendetta, A Mafia Story is told through the eyes of a woman standing at the forefront of a changing society, infiltrating the all-powerful underworld of the Chicago mafia. Full of red-hot emotions like passion, anger, and greed depicted through the beauty of dance, Vendetta is a thrilling performance guaranteed to captivate audiences.

“Vendetta premiered in the spring of 2017 in Montreal,” says Tulsa Ballet Artistic Director Marcello Angelini. “I went to see it, as I love Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s works and fell in love with it. In the words of Annabelle, Vendetta is “Broadway meets Film Noir, meets Moulin Rouge, meets Vaudeville with a tad of Fellini.” The work is interesting, funny, engaging, and the story is well told and well developed with enough drama to keep the audience at the edge of their seats and enough humor to lighten up the experience. Lastly, I love the fact that, for once, the Padrino ends up being a woman. So refreshing!”

Angelini continues, “It’s deeply rooted in classical ballet and yet it’s totally contemporary in feel. When I think of Annabelle’s choreography I think of a person who is intimately familiar with classical ballet, exceptionally comfortable with contemporary dance, one that has a full closet of acquired knowledge of how to move the human body from her time as a dancer, and one that is gifted with an extraordinary imagination. And then, once she gets into the studio, she uses all of those tools to make something that tells the story with great movement value and fantastic choreographic architecture.”

Vendetta, A Mafia Story will run from March 26-29, 2020 at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. Tickets start as low as $25 and may be purchased by calling (918) 749-6006 or by visiting www.tulsaballet.org.
