TULSA BALLET SETS THE STAGE ABLAZE WITH CASANOVA | LOVER. LIBERTINE. LEGEND.
Tulsa audiences are used to tiaras, fairies, and happily-ever-afters. This spring, Tulsa Ballet is handing them a mask, a candle, and a warning label.
From March 26–29, 2026, at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, the company presents the Oklahoma premiere of Casanova, choreographed by British storyteller Kenneth Tindall; a ballet that leans less into courtly romance and more into the complicated psychology of desire. The production carries a mature content advisory, something rarely attached to a ballet in Tulsa, and that’s exactly the point.
The story follows history’s most notorious lover, not as a caricature, but as a man addicted to connection, constantly performing versions of himself to survive the social games of 18th-century Europe. Seduction becomes currency, and intimacy becomes dangerous.
Kenneth Tindall shares, “With Casanova, I wanted to strip away the caricature and reveal the man, magnetic, flawed, irresistibly human. This isn’t just a story about seduction; it’s about appetite for life. I’ve tried to create a world that feels urgent, cinematic, and emotionally charged, where every encounter leaves its mark.”
Tindall is familiar to Tulsa audiences for the theatrical sweep of Alice in Wonderland and the dramatic heat of Carmen, but Casanova marks his most impassioned work to appear here. Set to a cinematic score by composer Kerry Muzzey and framed by Christopher Oram’s lavish costume design, the ballet promises a visual treat with a touch of scandal.
