FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tulsa, August 7TH, 2023 / The Tulsa Ballet Center for Dance Education has matched 16 aspiring dancers with 4 mentors from Tulsa Ballet’s internationally acclaimed professional ballet company. This new 9-month Student Mentorship Program is open to aspiring dancers ages 14+ from studios across our city. Through this program, students have the rare opportunity to build a connection with a professional dancer and gain unique insight into daily life as a company dancer.

“I was very fortunate to grow up, as a young dance student, in the ballet school of a European Opera House, the Teatro San Carlo in Napoli, Italy,” says Marcello Angelini, Artistic Director of Tulsa Ballet. “That meant I had the ability to watch rehearsals while I was waiting for my classes to start. And, because my father was a dancer in the company, I also had the opportunity to interact with professional dancers and ask them all my questions about a career in dance.  With the mentorship program, we want to replicate the same kind of experience for our students and break down the barriers between accomplished professionals and aspiring young artists.  I believe the program will accomplish this goal.”

The Tulsa Ballet Student Mentorship Program begins in September with observation of a closed-company class, a private meet-and-greet, and a mentor-led backstage tour of Tulsa Ballet’s Creations in Studio K. In October, students and their mentors will together attend the upcoming screening of FLOWER and in-person Talkback with Misty Copeland and Leyla Fayyaz, Life in Motion Productions. The Student Mentorship Program provides students with incredible experiences throughout the season including: a Tulsa Ballet Student Mentorship reception, mentor-taught ballet class, dance photography workshop, professional contemporary dance photoshoot, and more.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer students from around Tulsa, this invaluable opportunity to connect with the professional dancers of Tulsa Ballet, and receive mentorship in their own personal dance journey,” says Lauren Richter, School Principal of Tulsa Ballet Center for Dance Education.
