Tulsa Ballet continues its mission to preserve the tradition of classical ballet, promote the appreciation of contemporary dance, and create new enduring works.
Tulsa, OKLA. – January 2019 – Tulsa Ballet Artistic Director Marcello Angelini proudly announces the 2019/20 Season. Angelini says, “I am delighted to share next season’s programming. As I have done every year since 1995, when planning a new season I strive to find the right balance between a multitude of goals and objectives. We strive to excel in our execution of classical works but we also pride ourselves as an excellent contemporary dance company. We create new works and introduce American Premieres to our audience, while creating works here to be performed in other companies all over the world. Our ambitions are bigger than our financial prowess and yet, because of the passion, dedication, hard work and competence of our company and staff, we present our community with uncompromising art.”
This year is no different. Mr. Angelini has once again found the perfect balance between bringing in the classics in ballet alongside contemporary works, including new creations and world premieres. The season launches with Creations in Studio K September 12-22, 2019 featuring world premieres by renowned choreographers Ma Cong and Garrett Smith. The haunting Giselle makes its return to the Tulsa PAC October 31-November 3. December will mark another year of Angelini’s The Nutcracker as a new version is prepared to launch in the near future. Edwaard Liang’s Dorothy and the Prince of Oz will be presented February 13-16 after a successful world premiere in 2016. Vendetta, a Mafia Story is thrilling, dark, and humorous story ballet by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and will premiere March 26-29, 2020. The 2019/20 Season will conclude with Signature Series May 7-10, 2020 at TU’s Lorton Performance Center. Signature Series is a triple bill featuring Ma Cong’s Glass Figures, Itzik Galili’s O Balcao de Amour, and a world premiere work by Penny Saunders.
