Position: Wardrobe Supervisor
Reports to: Costume Shop Manager
Estimated Salary: $31,000 – $34,000
General Position Description: The Wardrobe Supervisor runs and manages all performances, oversees and assists all dressers and overhire working on a production, and is lead stitcher for all Tulsa Ballet’s productions. This can include maintaining, creating, or altering costumes, shoes, and maintaining hair, and make-up looks/designs for productions; creating run tracks; and assisting the Wardrobe department as the Costume Shop Manager sees fit. This position works closely with the Costume Shop Manager, Assistant Costume Shop Manager, The Center for Dance Education, Ballet Mistresses, and Guest Designers including working closely with students.
Essential Responsibilities Include:
- Under the direction of the Costume Shop Manager, maintain the appearance and integrity of all aspects of costumes, hair, wigs, and makeup for Tulsa Ballet productions while in the theater, ensuring that the designer’s vision remains intact.
- Construction and alteration of costumes for all dancers for all Tulsa Ballet productions.
- Assist with packing and maintenance of costume crates and boxes for rental use.
- Stock and maintain workbox inventory including, but not limited to, creating a supply list for purchasing and organizing the contents of the workbox.
- Maintainance and organization of all undergarments (tights, thongs, dance belts, socks, etc.) for the dancers.
- Maintain and organize a working Inventory of performance shoes, in collaboration with the Shoe Manager.
- Ensuring the costume inventory and rental inventory, and associated documentation is organized and properly maintained.
- Assist in costume fittings for each production.
- Support the education department and Tulsa Ballet’s Pre-Professional Ensemble (TBII) efforts regarding costume needs, including but not limited to, End of the Year Performance for the Tulsa Ballet Center for Dance Education (TBCDE) and Hardesty Center for Dance Education (HCDE) and TBII performances and education outreach programs.
- Direct and assist overhire on stitching projects that use both hand and machine stitching.
- Execute the majority of the Costume Shop stitching needs with the help of overhire and the Assistant Costume Shop Manager as needed, with assistance and direction from Artistic, the Costume Shop Manager, and Assitant Shop Manager.
- Attendance at production meetings and enough studio rehearsals to have a working knowledge of the performances; attendance at technical rehearsals and performances as assigned.

- Manage the load-in and load-out operations, including, but not limited to, organizing and labeling inventory in their travel boxes before load-in, distributing inventory once at the theatre, organizing, checking, and loading the inventory into their travel boxes before load out.
- Check the dressing rooms before and after each performance to ensure that all costumes are accounted for and in their proper places and that the dressing rooms maintain proper cleanliness.
- Create and maintain dressing room labels and dancer room assignments in collaboration with the Costume Shop Manager, Asst. Costume Shop Manager, and Artistic Staff.
- Coordinate, create and maintain costume run tracks that include quick changes, costume changes, and presets; generate “look books” and makeup guides as needed.
- Be responsible for ensuring the proper placement of all quick-change costumes before the start of the show.
- Assist the performers as needed in the dressing and quick-change areas during each performance.
- Assist the performers backstage in their dressing rooms in advance of and following performances.
- Assist in the collection and cleaning of the costumes and do any necessary repairs and stain removal after each performance.
- Coordinate and assist Dressers to maintain specific showpieces before and after each show.
- Following each production, assist and prep costumes for dry cleaning, including, but not limited to, creating an inventory of pieces needed dry cleaned, organizing, and labeling pieces before going to the cleaners.
Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years experience in a professional costume shop; strong organization and communication skills; basic word processing and spreadsheet skills; strong costume construction skills, including but not limited to: strong stitching skills, interpreting and building off of a pattern, some dye skills, painting, and other craftwork, ability to create and alter headpieces, basic wig styling and maintenance preferred; working knowledge of domestic and industrial sewing machines, sergers, and similar equipment; ability to establish strong professional working relationships with various personalities; have patience for repetition; be self-motivated; be open and willing to collaborating with others.
Musical theatre, dance experience, and/or touring experience are a plus.
