On the eve of his 21st birthday, Prince Siegfried’s carefree world is upended when a mysterious encounter by a moonlit lake draws him into a realm of enchantment. There, he meets Odette, a breathtaking creature bound by a dark sorcerer’s curse, and vows to free her with his devotion. But when the royal ball arrives, illusion and deception weave their spell, forcing Siegfried to confront the limits of his heart and the power of true love. As night deepens and the swan maidens dance beneath the rising dawn, destiny hovers, poised between tragedy and redemption.
150 years later, and Swan Lake is still one of the most popular ballets of all time. From the iconic “dance of the four little swans” corps de ballet section to the multiple Oscar-winning movie Black Swan, and the beloved score by Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Swan Lake has been adapted vastly across all forms of media, further cementing its global recognition. Choreography by Tulsa Ballet’s Artistic Director Marcello Angelini (after Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov), plus live accompaniment by Tulsa Symphony. READ THE SYNOPSIS
PROLOGUE
The curtain opens in Prince Siegfried’s bedroom, where we find him sleeping and dreaming of finding his true love. During his dream, Rothbart, who could be construed as Siegfried’s alter ego, reveals himself. Rothbart, representing the inner conflicts of Prince Siegfried, transforms the woman into a swan, symbolizing Siegfried’s struggle with love and relationships.
WHAT IS PREVIEW NIGHT?
Get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the magic of Tulsa Ballet. Preview Night offers you the chance to enter the PAC theater early and watch as the cast and crew prepare for a performance of The Sleeping Beauty.
Watch the dancers take their warmup class, hear from the artistic and production staff about what goes into putting a ballet onstage, then sit back and enjoy the Company’s final dress rehearsal, presented as a complete production from start-to-finish, as well as observe first-hand how final adjustments are made at the on-site production table. All tickets behind the production table have been discounted to $25 – no code necessary! Want a closer look? We’ve also discounted all available seats in front of the table to $50 each.
Doors for Preview Night will open at 6:15 and the show will begin at 7:00. Between 6:15 and 7:00, the curtain to the stage will remain open as the Tulsa Ballet staff go over various calls and cues. Interviews will be conducted with members of the artistic and production team.
