September 15-24, 2017

Now in its 11th year, the Creations in Studio K performance series continues to bring innovative and moving works by the world’s most in-demand choreographers to Tulsa. A program of dance unlike any other, this triple-bill features world premiere works commissioned just for Tulsa Ballet.

This year, the Creations in Studio K is dedicated to the power of the female voice as we showcase three female choreographers who are at the height of their creative careers:

Our Studio K theater will allow you to enjoy these dynamic World Premiere works in an intimate setting, where you can see every rippling muscle and experience the artistry and emotions of our performers up close and personal.

BEYOND THE CURTAIN – Gender and Dance – Fri. Sept. 8th from 5:30-7:00PM. FREE EVENT featuring an interactive panel discussion with female leaders in the fields of dance and creativity.

Beyond the Curtain is supported by the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Foundation and the Mary Ann and John Bumgarner family in memory of Cherine Janzen.

See tomorrow’s stars of ballet, today! Tulsa Ballet II, the second company of Tulsa Ballet, is comprised of the most promising young dancers from around the globe. As these dancers grow from students into mature artists, they may be invited to join the main company or go on to perform with other respected companies throughout their career.

As part of the TBII Mini-Series, Tulsa Ballet II will have its own season of two productions to showcase their talents:

On Your Radar, August 25-27, 2017.
Emerging Choreographers Showcase, April 13-15, 2018.

On Your Radar will feature three exciting World Premiere works from in-demand choreographers, created exclusively for TBII dancers. The program will include new works by Jennifer Archibald, Karen Castleman, and Tulsa Ballet Resident Choreographer Ma Cong.

Signature Series

May 11-14, 2017

Don’t miss this special closing program featuring three of Artistic Director Marcello Angelini’s favorite pieces, including:

Join us for our final performance of our 60th anniversary season with this stunning triple-bill evening of contemporary ballet. Cacti features 16 dancers creating rhythms together and will have you laughing out loud. A Million Kisses to My Skin is an exuberant tribute to classical dance that evokes feelings of bliss. Cripple and the Starfish, created for Tulsa Ballet’s Creations in Studio K series in 2014 and an audience favorite, returns for an encore performance.

Swan Lake

March 24-26, 2017

The classic ballet returns to Tulsa for the first time in six years. Odette, a young maiden trapped in the form of a swan due to an evil sorcerer’s curse, must find eternal love to break the spell.

Dorothy and the Prince of Oz

February 10-12, 2017

To make our 60th season something special, we’ve commissioned a brand-new, $1 million full-length ballet. Through a collaboration with BalletMet of Columbus, Ohio, the World Premiere of Dorothy and the Prince of Oz (working title) will take place right here in Tulsa, and is guaranteed to delight audiences of all ages. Featuring choreography by the esteemed Edwaard Liang (Artistic Director for BalletMet, choreographer for Tulsa Ballet’s acclaimed Romeo and Juliet) as well all new music, sets and costumes, this production will be the dance event of the year.

The Nutcracker

December 10-11, 16-18 & 22-23, 2016

This holiday season, let your holidays dance when you bring your family to The Nutcracker. Share in the magic as a young girl’s fantasy unfolds in this remarkable production that mixes the visuals of a Broadway show with the heartwarming story of a fairy-tale Christmas.

More than 100 local children join the professional company to help the larger-­than-­life Mouse King battle the Nutcracker Prince and his toy soldier brigade. Audiences young and old will be enchanted by this theatrical holiday production.

Onegin

Based on Alexander Pushkin’s verse-novel Eugene Onegin, this full-length ballet tells the love story of Tatiana and Onegin (pronounced Un-YAY-gin with a hard g). A dramatic tale of unrequited romance, your heart will be moved by this passionate ballet.

Creations in Studio K

September 16-18 and 22-25, 2016

Our 60th season officially kicks off with three World Premiere dances inspired by our dancers and created by in-demand choreographers Alejandro CerrudoNicolo Fonte, and Tulsa Ballet Resident Choreographer Ma Cong. Enjoy seeing both the subtle nuances and explosive athleticism of our talented company and world-class choreographers up close and personal in our intimate Studio K theater.

Join us during the first intermission at every performance for a special reception celebrating the kick-off of our 60th season. Wine and light hors d’oeuvres will be served in the lobby.

In the spirit of creation, a special performance featuring works by local Tulsa modern dance companies will take place Sunday, September 25 at 7pm in Studio K. Featured companies include Portico Dans Theatre, Bell House Arts, Nina Madsen Dance, and Tulsa Modern Movement. Admission to this performance is free with your Creations in Studio K ticket stub.
